4112.22 — Staff Teaching English Learners (AR)

This administrative regulation, adopted August 16, 2022, establishes requirements for teachers who instruct English learners in Reed Union School District. The district must ensure English learner students perform at or above state levels, or show they're closing achievement gaps rapidly. Teachers providing English language development or primary language instruction must hold appropriate credentials. Teachers who were permanent employees as of January 1, 1999, can qualify to teach English learners by completing 45 hours of specialized training in content instruction methods. Additional requirements exist for self-contained classroom instruction, including nine years of California teaching experience or an additional 45 hours of training. Teachers may be provisionally assigned while pursuing required training. The policy ensures compliance with state staffing requirements for serving English language learners.
